2015 Apr Commandant's Corner

The month of April will be a busy, busy month for the Detachment.  We will start off with an Eagle Scout award for Jaden Robinson.  Presenting a Good Citizenship Award on behalf of the Marine Corps League is a great honor and I look forward to this opportunity. Normally, the Detachment is represented by the Commandant and one or two other Marines.  I will always remember when the Detachment had the honor to present six awards at the same time.  I believe we had ten Marines attend that ceremony.  Being busy and helpful to the community has been a hallmark of the Detachment since it was formed in February 2007.  We are fortunate to have a few “plank owners” with us today.

There will be articles, in this Newsletter, I am certain, informing you of the forthcoming Golf Tournament on 11 May.  Now, there may be members who do not golf (I know it is hard for some to believe, nevertheless it is true) and that is good since we have many administrative duties that need to be accomplished to ensure we have another successful Golf Tournament.  Volunteers are always needed.  I know you will be contacted so, Be Prepared, Be Available and Be Involved.

Another matter that we need to accomplish during the Month of April is nominating members for elected positions within the Detachment.  You will be provided a ballot as you walk into the Elks.  Please fill the ballot out with names of individuals you would like to see fulfilling that position:  Billets that need to be voted in are: Commandant; Senior Vice Commandant; Junior Vice Commandant; Judge Advocate; Adjutant; and Paymaster.  The Staff will prepare a final ballot for your sustaining vote at the May meeting.

Continue to March!
