Detachment member Ken Olsen's wife, Shirley, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on 26 Apr 2015. Shirley was a charter member of Utah Dixie's auxiliary and a faithful companion to Ken. Our sympathies to the Olsen family.
Detachment member Larry Mineer's mother, Dorothy, passed away in Washington City surrounded by family on 26 Apr 2015. She was 92-1/2 and was a life long resident of Utah, spending her first 26 years in Salt Lake City, 46 years in Bountiful and her remaining years in Southern Utah to be close to her family who resided in the Washington County area. Our sympathies to our Sergeant-at-Arms, Larry and his wife, Claire, on their loss.

For those Marines who are not golfing we have been given an opportunity to do OUR part in supporting the biggest Detachment fundraiser of the year –OUR annual golf tournament.
SUNRIVER GOLF COURSE
Here is OUR chance to sign up for something that will greatly assist the success of the tournament.
Here is OUR chance to participate even if we don't golf.
Here is OUR chance to be the face for the Detachment (while the golfers golf).
In the link above is a form to review and sign OUR names for as many duties as WE can accomplish. (Some tasks require less than 15 minutes to complete but must be done and done correctly.) A quick review will show a requirement to set up chairs at 0630. That task, while important, won't take long, SO, we can be expected to accomplish that mission plus others. For example: Setting out raffle prizes and/or assisting the Explorer Post, as well as handing out prizes after the tournament.
You get the picture.
If you have any questions about the duties, you can contact any of the golf committee members who will be able to answer your questions. Uniform will be the red shirts and black trousers/shorts. Garrison cap or any USMC cap.
Let's all who can participate be there. Volunteers are needed. Remember:

Here is a portion of Col. Whicker's e-mail (Dixie High School's AFJROTC program) to Bill Toole.
First of all, let me thank you once again for your firm support of our program. We honestly could not run this program without the many people like you who believe in these cadets as our future.
As you know, our annual National Awards Ceremony is scheduled at the Dixie High School Auditorium on Friday, 1 May 2015. Social hour starts at 1730 in the Dixie High Commons, with the Awards Ceremony starting promptly at 1900 hours in the adjacent auditorium. We would like to ask you to ensure all of your organization’s members are aware so they can plan to show support to this great bunch of youth. There will be food available during the social hour, so you won’t need to eat dinner before you come! The Booster Club is also organizing a Silent Auction, which we invite you to participate in.
GLENN R. WHICKER, Colonel, USAF (Ret.)
Three 2014 Pups and one 2015 Candidate are shown in this photo of an exhibit drill at Dixie High School. They placed first in state. The Marine Corps League Detachment has presented certificates to two worthy cadets each year and this year will be no exception. Please join us to honor these cadets and this program which has been extremely supportive of our Devil Pup program.

The month of April will be a busy, busy month for the Detachment. We will start off with an Eagle Scout award for Jaden Robinson. Presenting a Good Citizenship Award on behalf of the Marine Corps League is a great honor and I look forward to this opportunity. Normally, the Detachment is represented by the Commandant and one or two other Marines. I will always remember when the Detachment had the honor to present six awards at the same time. I believe we had ten Marines attend that ceremony. Being busy and helpful to the community has been a hallmark of the Detachment since it was formed in February 2007. We are fortunate to have a few “plank owners” with us today.
There will be articles, in this Newsletter, I am certain, informing you of the forthcoming Golf Tournament on 11 May. Now, there may be members who do not golf (I know it is hard for some to believe, nevertheless it is true) and that is good since we have many administrative duties that need to be accomplished to ensure we have another successful Golf Tournament. Volunteers are always needed. I know you will be contacted so, Be Prepared, Be Available and Be Involved.
Another matter that we need to accomplish during the Month of April is nominating members for elected positions within the Detachment. You will be provided a ballot as you walk into the Elks. Please fill the ballot out with names of individuals you would like to see fulfilling that position: Billets that need to be voted in are: Commandant; Senior Vice Commandant; Junior Vice Commandant; Judge Advocate; Adjutant; and Paymaster. The Staff will prepare a final ballot for your sustaining vote at the May meeting.
