Many who return from a prolonged vacation
express happiness in returning to their home and friends. I must agree with them. Okalene and I left on the 15th of August and
returned on the 13th of September, traveling to the East Coast and back,
visiting friends and relatives along the way. It was a long, long trip. Okalene tries to convince me that the primary
reason for traveling back to Maryland was to attend our grandson's wedding. I agreed with her, notwithstanding the fact
that it was a short drive to the Marine Corps Museum which permitted me to
spend a day talking to the Marine Corps staff. They were quite helpful and provided a number
of ideas for us to ponder, should we ever desire to consider recommending a
proper Marine Corps display to the St George Children's Museum. We should have something to look at within
the next three months.
I would be remiss
if I didn't acknowledge how proud I was that the Detachment continued to
flourish, during my absence, under the leadership of the Senior Vice
Commandant, Les Covey. He continued to
keep me abreast of the activities by e-mail and telephone. He was very complimentary concerning the Staff
and in the manner in which each leader stepped up to ensure no negative traits
were encountered. To all I say
"Well Done, and it’s good to be back." See you at the Saturday's breakfast 0830, 11
Oct.
