Extras for Honor Flight Receptions

Marines:  I was in the Las Vegas Airport awaiting my flight.  It was announced that included with those unloading from the plane was a WWII Honor Flight veteran.  Maybe someone in the Detachment needs a similar hat???

He returned alone after the other Honor Flight veterans had returned because he had fallen and wasn't up to the earlier flight.  It was heartwarming to see the honor he received from everyone in view in the airport.

Thank You from Pine View

Billion received and passed on this letter of thanks from Pine View High School:

30 Oct 2018
LETTER OF APPRECIATION FOR The Marine Corps League of Southern Utah
FROM:  Lieutenant Colonel Thomas W. Brown, USAF (Retired)
SUBJECT:  Donation for Community Service

Thank you for the donation of $250 toward the Pine View Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) program, UT-20161.  Our cadets enjoyed serving during the competition and allowing some of our cadets to observe the competitive shooters from all over the world.
We look forward to our continued relationship and partnership with your organization and look forward to future opportunities for our cadets to provide community service.

2018 Wreaths Across America

WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA IS SPONSORED BY
THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION AND
ZION HARLEY DAVIDSON

The historic St George Cemetery is completely funded for Christmas wreaths as of 9-30 where 1100 Veterans are buried. Still need to raise monies to cover 500 graves at Tonaquint Cemetery (258 of 750 are currently covered) and 20 Veterans graves at Shivwits Cemetery.  Participation is really needed at this BBQ fundraiser.  Remember The Daughters of the American Revolution and Zion Harley Davidson are honoring over 1800 deceased Veterans this December 15th for  Wreaths Across America. Please come out and help support them with the Wreaths Across America fund raiser.  Entertainment will be provided.

Please join us on Saturday, October 20th, at Zion Harley Davidson for our 3rd annual BBQ fundraiser to benefit Wreaths Across America (WAA).  Our goal this year is to REMEMBER and HONOR approximately 1800 veterans buried at three participating locations:  Tonaquint Cemetery, Shivwits Cemetery and, for the very first time, historic St George Cemetery.  The GOOD NEWS is that we already have sponsors for 1300 wreaths as of this date.  We are very confident that this event annually hosted by Zion Harley Davidson can and will get us much, much closer to the finish line.

Please help us SPREAD THE WORD about this BBQ fundraiser by circulating the attached flyer and encouraging all you know to come out and support this wonderful cause.  I have attached a link to a mission briefing video that really paints the picture of what Wreaths Across America is all about and why so many people across the nation passionately support it.  I have also attached a news link of our 2017 WAA ceremony so you can also share the impact Wreaths Across America has on our community.

Please feel free to contact me at any time about this specific event or Wreaths Across America in general.  This year's national WAA ceremony day is scheduled for Saturday, December 15th.  Please SAVE THE DATE as we will need plenty of helpings hands to lay over 1800 wreaths.

Respectfully yours,

Poet Justice Johnston

Marines:  Billion and I thought you might get a kick out of a poem that Justice sent home from Devil Pup summer camp this year.  As you know, Justice is Billion's daughter and has been training with him for two years because she wanted to go to Devil Pup camp so badly.  She not only qualified at age 14, but came pretty close to a perfect PFT score at camp.

The pups all have to write a letter home to their parents.  They are only to write a letter and nothing else, but our little poet decided to add a poem on the back of her letter home.  The instructors caught it - but thought it was so funny they didn't yell at her!  Here's the poem (translation below):

Poem from Devil Pup Camp
By Justice Johnston

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Why did I come here?
I think I’m screwed.
My hair is messed up
and my whole body’s sore,
I’m so flippin’ tired
I’d nap on the floor (I got MRE cheese spread on my paper)
The instructors are scary,
They’re all women here.
If I mess up,
They’ll all scream in my ear!
We get MRE’s
And they taste like trash,
They won’t let us shower –
I smell like A**.

Love you all,
I’ll be home soon,
Justice Johnston
