11 Nov 2015 - Veterans Day Ceremony at SunRiver Honor Park

We will be having pretty much the same thing we had last year on Veteran's Day:  posting of colors on front walkway, national anthem, a couple of speakers, call to colors and raising of colors with firing detail topping off with volley, flyover with jet, a song or two and a prayer. Total service should last about 40 minutes.  If you can get an hour or two break next Saturday morning the 7th, please come to practice at 1030.  Parade begins at 9:00 a.m. on the 11th.  Please advise Larry Mineer if you can make practice and this event, so he can make a head count.  Those of you with dress blues, please plan on making this event, we have special spots for you.

17 Oct 2015 - Switchpoint Stand-Down Day

Utah Dixie Detachment #1270, Marine Corps League, has been asked to provide plastic utensils, plates, cups and doughnuts, in addition to acting as guides to help the veterans go from one assignment to another.  PLEASE WEAR RED POLO SHIRT AND SOME SORT OF COVER INDICATING YOU'RE A MARINE.  Please sign up for as many shifts as you can volunteer on the form provided in this link:

A “Stand Down” will be held Saturday at the Switchpoint Community Resource Center, 948 N. 1300 West, in St. George. The Stand Down will provide multiple veteran services and program information at one convenient location.

MORE INFORMATION

This event will connect homeless and veterans at risk of being homeless with information and services including medical physicals; dental checks; legal clinic; VA services eligibility for healthcare enrollment, pension and disability claim assistance, Veteran CarePaks (hygiene kits, blankets, warm clothes, goodies and more); education and employment opportunities; free haircuts; mental health services education; substance abuse services education; social and family services; women veterans information; and more.

Local Veteran Organizations, along with Switchpoint, are committed to serving the needs of homeless veterans in the community. Stand Downs present unique opportunities to promote health, wellness and connection to valuable VA and community resources for this vulnerable population.

Many Veterans are only one paycheck away from being homeless. Veterans should consider this event if they are experiencing legal issues or living paycheck to paycheck, which may contribute to being at risk of being homeless.
