July 13 Monthly Breakfast Meeting

Marines, Corpsmen, and Associates:

Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 will meet next Saturday at the Elks Lodge at 0830 for breakfast, followed by a business meeting at 0900.  We will have two, brief presentations.  First, Tom Lamb, Outreach Coordinator at the Vet's Center, will give us insight into a Washington County equestrian program for veterans with PTSD that we need to support.  Then, our own Kelly Bornhoeft, who is a State Career Readiness Counselor for Citizen Soldier For Life, will give us an overview of his job and what we can do to help.

Any Associate Members who have not taken the MCL oath of membership will be sworn in. John Mayer will give us a breakdown of the recent golf tournament success, and Robert Reinbolt, Donations Committee Chair, will propose 3 donations on which we need your vote.  Please plan to attend this meeting as there will be other issues to discuss that we need your input on.

I watched an amazing video this week about 3 Iraq veterans who come together and make a 30-day road trip across the country.  On the way they encounter other veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan and conduct interviews relating to their assimilation back into American society.

I have seen other films and documentaries with the same premise but by far this is the best one, in my opinion.  Check it out and see what you think.  It's only about an hour long. The lessons learned in this doc can be applied to any veteran from any war, especially if you saw combat.  Give me your feedback!  Semper Fi!

Gatherings

Thank you to everyone who came to the Pizza Party last night.  We had a great time and there was plenty of food!  We learned a little bit about Chesty Puller, and it was also the date of the victory at Belleau Wood (June 26).  

Our next get together will be July 26 at the Marriott Courtyard from 5PM - ?  Just show up and have a beverage and share a few laughs.  More details to follow but for now just mark your calendar.

One last item:  Bernie will not be heading directly home from the hospital but rather he will be recovering and rehabilitating at the Veterans Home in Ivins.  Go see him, he'll be glad you did!  If you do that this coming Saturday you might want to time it so you can get in on a program called "Utah's Dixie Veterans' Stories."  This is a panel discussion about life in the military and returning to civilian life.  At least one of the panel members is a resident at the Home.  That program starts at 2 p.m.
